Our Partnership with Fletcher Street Cottage
The heart of Byron Bay is found in the way neighbours look out for one another. At Fletcher Street Cottage, this spirit of community is at the core of everything they do. The Seaton Foundation is proud to have recently joined this effort, supporting the Cottage as it provides a vital services hub for locals facing homelessness and hardship.
A Place for Every Neighbour
Managed by the Byron Community Centre, Fletcher Street Cottage operates on the simple but powerful belief that everyone deserves dignity. As Manager Damian Farrell notes, those seeking help are our brothers, sisters, mothers, and sons. Since opening its doors in 2022, the Cottage has become an essential community hub:

A Hearty Start: Our support helps keep the breakfast space and programme running, serving nearly 37,500 meals to date.

Essential Dignity: The Cottage has facilitated over 10,000 safe showers and 5,600 loads of laundry—providing the basic human rights many take for granted.

Connection and Healing: Beyond practical help, programmes like the weekly Art Space and Women’s Space offer a therapeutic outlet for participants to find peace and process their journey.
Creating Paths to Stability
The true success of the Cottage lies in the individual lives transformed within its walls. We have seen firsthand how wraparound support can change a person's trajectory—like the local mother who was linked with mental health services through the Cottage, creating a path to stability that allowed her to reconnect with her child.
The impact is also visible on a wider scale. According to the latest NSW Street Count, Byron Bay has seen a 16% decrease in rough sleepers over the past year—the largest drop across the state—proving that collective efforts are working.
Growing to Meet New Challenges
As our region changes, so does the work of the Cottage. Recognising the rising numbers of women experiencing homelessness, they launched the Women's Space in early 2025. This community-funded initiative provides transport to safety, counselling, and a dedicated weekly women-only afternoon in a welcoming environment.
Fletcher Street Cottage is where change happens—one meal, one conversation, and one connection at a time. We are proud to stand with their team of 125 dedicated volunteers to ensure no one in our community has to navigate their darkest moments alone.
